OPEN LETTER TO UGANDA

February 19th, 2005

RE: NEW ORDER DEMOCRACY (NOD)

Dear,

My Deepest Felicitations and Salutations to you all.

It is with utmost pleasure and gratification that I introduce to you, in humility, the imminent Launch and Official Registration of our political Party, New Order Democracy (NOD).

Way back in 1991, a group of Ugandans both inside and outside the country sat down together, and after having taken stock of our country’s sad political genesis, decided that a new political party be founded. A group of Ugandans thereafter petitioned me and bestowed this awesome and onerous task for which I did accept with humility.

In 1993, NOD was therefore born. Our immediate task upon NOD’s birth was to conceptualise our vision concretely, consult widely, and then to introduce the debate onto the Ugandan floor. This was achieved thru’ various ways including thru’ a Memorandum of 1993, which was adequately circulated throughout Uganda. Consultancies involved reaching out to various interest groups, including the Church, the Student groups, civil society, the peasantry, and many others. We also took advantage of the our external expediencies to mobilize public opinion from regional and foreign governments. This meant direct travel and contact with all the major capitals of the world.

We were overwhelmed by the peoples’ undecipherable desire for real change. For NEW WINE IN A NEW BAG!

However, due to the limitations on party political activities imposed by Lt. Gen. Museveni’s One Party State apparatus, NOD was unable to translate its perceived good will and mandated wish of the people into reality. It was for this reason that NOD reclined into limbo, waiting for the opportunity to plant the seed of hope, peace, reconciliation, multiparty democracy, adherence to human rights, national unity, development, respect for the individual conscience, and the love and respect of God; and to stop the bloodletting, which has become the norm in our beloved country Uganda.

This untenable and unsustainable dictatorship status quo changed for the better in November last year resulting from the historic Constitutional Court ruling paving way for multi party dispensation. Therefore, real opportunity for change is now before us.

In this regard therefore, NOD has been re-mobilising country wide, and will launch and officially register within the unjustifiable undemocratic imposition of the April 2005 deadline; with a view to participating in the 2006 Presidential and General Elections

It is now my honour and priviledge to ask, on behalf of NODs National Executive Committee, for your personal and direct support for our, your, efforts to realize the noble goals NOD has set for itself. Your support will be invaluable to Uganda and to NOD, and you will go down in our history as one and all that will be counted in changing our motherland for posterity.

I thank you most sincerely and may the Good Lord Bless you all.

For and on Behalf of

NEW ORDER DEMOCRACY (NOD).

Dr. Okiror Oumo
CHAIRMAN
